While the site has been open to the public only during programming use and therefore considered underutilized today, it is nestled within a historic residential district, served by active corridors in walkable proximity to the commercial Cambridge Street and its multiple nodes of transportation.
These characteristics enable The Vilna to leverage the Site to achieve many arts, cultural and social goals as defined by The Vilna’s Mission, Vision and Values, while also potentially becoming an active node for communities to converge in a unique setting within the Historic Beacon Hill District. Inspired by The Vilna’s goals, culture and history, the project was conceptualized as an inclusive multidisciplinary center where diversity, shared green-open space, and a mix of technological features that would set to form a public cultural center that is respectful of its roots and open to growth and future connections.
