Following the theme of identity in architecture for the curated exhibition by Leandro V. Locsin & Partners, these pieces focused specifically on a river, the Pasig River that bisects through the environmental and urban fabric of the City of Manila. Its acrylic layers that are clean and pristine, is designed to provoke one to question its existing reality, versus its faded history and what can come of its near future.
The meandering river was laser cut into the different layers of acrylic and of varying number and characteristic for each architectural sculpture to allude to the river’s history, present and conjectural future. A 3D layered image of a man is present to symbolize our society’s conscience as the landscape changes. This project dominated local and international press as a representative for the first Philippine National Pavilion for the Venice Architecture Biennale exhibited in the historic Palazzo Mora of Venice, Italy.
